My Story

ART

Constance has won prizes for her artworks 'The Awful Truth' at the Lake Taupo Open Art Awards, 'Make Love Not War' at the Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Awards and 'Architectural Wizardry' at the India International Centre in New Delhi.  She has exhibited at the Easter Show Art Awards, Devonport Arts Festival, Mairangi Bay Arts Centre Members Exhibition and the North Shore City Art Awards.

She's had solo exhibitions at the Refinery Cafe, Birkenhead and Step-Up Gallery, Covert Theatre in Auckland, group showings 'Streets Ahead' at the Paramount Cinema and 'Scrap Heap Challenge'  & 'Mince Pies' at Roar Gallery in Wellington.   As well as commission orders from businesses she created a range of greeting cards that sold through outlets like Manky Chops.  For over two decades she has modelled for art classes and one day she would love to exhibit the sketches from her Indian travels.

WRITING

Constance kicked off her writing career with a Diploma in Freelance Travel Writing and Photography through the Australian College of Journalism.  She has participated in workshops with Kiwi writers Sarah-Kate Lynch and Nicky Pellegrino in conjunction with Random House Publishing and others courses through Community Education and the Emerging Artists Trust (EAT) in Wellington, under Steve Barr and Dr Gavin McGibbon which included a mentorship with Joe Bleakley.

Her short story 'Young Love' was published in a book 'Totally Devoted'; edited by Sue McCauley and published by Harper Collins.  She's had naturist articles published in the Go Natural Magazine and NZNF Nudesletter and joint articles published in Fishing News (NZ & OZ publications).  Current biographical works in progress are 'The Samoa Diaries' and 'The Indian Journals' plus a children's story called 'The Mad Crab & The Mermaid Pool'.

Her focus in recent years has turned to cinema and the medium of film.  She is a member of the NZ Writers Guild and for fun she likes to enter competitions like the NYC Short Screenplay challenge, where she acquits herself well, considering the large international field.

FILM

As a mature aged student Constance first completed a Bachelor of Performing & Screen Arts with a Major in

Directing from UNITEC then a decade later this was followed by a Masters in Scriptwriting from Victoria University’s esteemed IIML under Ken Duncum.  Buoyed by her success in the inaugural 48 Hour Film Competition in 2003 where her short film '100% Manmade' was voted audience favourite, Constance undertook an 'apprenticeship' with Onions, a film production company based in New Delhi; as a Creative Director/Writer making corporate films and documentaries.

Some of her work has screened at the WTM in London & Spain and the World Economic Forum in India.  A related print campaign 'IQ-India Quotient' was also presented to the UN General Assembly by PM Manmohan Singh.  On her return to NZ Constance freelanced on various projects from corporate films to a Creative NZ funded short film  Suburbanaut' , Dale Corlett’s 'The Man on the Side of the Road' and Ben Fransham's 'The Return' .

More recently Constance was shortlisted for the NZFC Gaylene Preston scholarship which involved a one day workshop plus she was one of the eight directors that made up the Oneshot Collective; an initiative for emerging independent Wellington filmmakers.  The resulting anthology feature film,'Encounters'took seven years from conception of the idea to its World Premiere at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington.  Her segment, 'The Tramp' starred Siobhan Marshall and Cohen Holloway.

Her dream is to be writing and directing her own award winning feature films.
